Portishead: Glorybox

The British Trip hop song features a keyboard, violin and perfectly placed guitar rifts, adding a touch of edge to the otherwise tame song. The lyrics perfectly complement the sound ("From this time, unchained/We are all looking at a different picture/Through this new frame of mind/A thousand flowers could bloom"). And singer Beth Gibbon's deep melodic voice adds a hint of sensuality. My favorite part of this song is its mystery, and its focus on the main lyrics rather than on the chorus.

Verdict: Thumbs Up
Other good songs: Numb, Sour Times
